Diagnostic Kit for Antibody to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (1+2) (Colloidal Gold)
The kit is a qualitative test for the detection of antibodies to Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 and 2(HIV-1/2) in human serum/plasma and whole blood. It is considered as an initial screening test for HIV-1/2 antibodies.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 38 million people globally are living with HIV, underscoring the critical need for awareness and effective diagnosis to manage this challenge.
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) occurs at the most advanced stage of infection.
HIV targets the body’s white blood cells, weakening the immune system. This makes it easier to get sick with diseases like tuberculosis, infections and some cancers.
HIV is primarily transmitted through specific bodily fluids, including blood, semen, vaginal fluids, rectal fluids, and breast milk. The most common routes of HIV transmission include unprotected sexual intercourse (both vaginal and anal), sharing needles or syringes with someone who has HIV, and from mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding.
WHO now defines Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) as CD4 cell count less than 200 cells/mm3 or WHO stage 3 or 4 in adults and adolescents. All children younger than 5 years of age living with HIV are considered to have advanced HIV disease.
